Our services
Spotting risks and making safety observations are part of our expertise and part of every factory visit, but we also offer ATEX inspection as a standalone service. Depending on your needs, we will review all or a specific part of the potential explosive areas and provide an independent view of which matters are in order and where there is room for improvement. Our approach is practical and we aim to enable operations without compromising safety. ATEX inspection is practically the same as an ATEX audit.
ATEX Inspection
-
ATEX inspection is suitable for a situation where:
- you are unsure whether the area classifications have been done professionally and accurately
- ATEX area classifications make operations difficult, and you want to assess whether the areas are overclassified
- you are unsure how to make a potentially explosive area safe
- you have handled ATEX matters yourself and want an experienced second opinion
- you want an explosion risk assessment
-
ATEX inspection includes, for example:
- hazardous area inspection
- practical advice and guidance on safe working during the visit
- an assessment of the area classifications, whether they require changes or can perhaps even be mitigated
- an audit whether safety measures require changes, for example in terms of ventilation or technology
- if necessary, you receive a quote for updating the explosion protection documents
-
Project delivery time is according to agreement, depending on size, varies between 3-12months

Why choose Exvira’s ATEX inspection?
We have a practical view
If a hall with flammable dust needs to be accessible with a bucket loader, the hall cannot be completely classified as potentially explosive area, as the bucket loader could ignite the flammable dust-air mixture. How can such a situation be resolved safely and in compliance with ATEX requirements? This is one example of a situation that we can help resolve.
Let’s make ATEX matters understandable to everyone
We want to make a difficult subject more understandable. Explosion protection documents and safety issues can seem complicated and unclear. We use understandable words, provide simple instructions and can give suggestions on how to streamline safety documentation so that it is understood by employees.
Experience is reflected in the end result
We have prepared explosion protection documents for over 1,700 sites in Finland and around the world, so we have a wide customer base from different industries. We know where things can go wrong and how to prevent it

Frequently asked questions
-
The actual explosion protection document is not automatically included in the service of an ATEX inspection. However, based on the inspection report, we can make an offer to prepare or update the explosion protection documents.
-
Yes, you can. The inspection can be carried out for the entire production facility or limited to, for example, a single process, production line or area. This is often a sensible way to proceed when, for example, only a specific part of the process or operation is being changed, and an explosion risk assessment is needed.
-
Most often yes. On site we see in practice how the premises, processes and daily operations work, which means that the ATEX inspection report must consider all the necessary issues. We can also compare the information and accuracy of existing documentation with the actual situation on site. During the visit we provide guidance and advice regarding explosion protection and compliance.
-
ATEX applies to many industries, making it essential to carry out an explosion risk assessment. Potentially explosive environments can arise, for example:
- in the food industry
- in the wood and sawmill industry
- in the energy industry
- in paint shops
- the chemical industry
- in recycling and waste processes
- on farms and in biogas plants
-
The employer is obliged to assess the explosion risks and, if necessary, draw up an explosion protection document. (ATEX Directive 1999/92/EC) (In Finland, Government Decree 576/2003.)
Exvira’s ATEX incpection is a good solution to ensure compliance if your own resources are not sufficient to familiarize yourself with the ATEX requirements. Or if you are in doubt whether you have been able to assess the explosion risks and explosion protection measures correctly. Based on the ATEX audit report, we can also assess the need for the preparation or an update of the explosion protection documents and the need for personnel training. Contact us and we will figure out how we can help.
