Ensure your personnel’s ATEX competence
The legislation in Finland requires that personnel working in potentially explosive atmospheres must be trained. (VNA 576/2003 Annex 2, Section 1.1)
ATEX training opens the eyes of the personnel to understanding what the EX-signs around their workplace mean and how they should be considered when working. ATEX training makes the matters covered in explosion protection documents more familiar to all personnel, so that the document truly fulfills its purpose and improves workplace safety.
Exvira mainly organizes company-specific ATEX training sessions, in which we come to your premises to train everyone who needs ATEX training in your company. We agree on the scope of the training according to your needs. A typical method is that the majority of personnel receive basic training in the morning and, for example, designers, electricians and maintenance personnel continue with extensive ATEX training in the afternoon. This is a cost- and resource-efficient way to obtain sufficient ATEX qualifications for all necessary personnel. We are currently organizing ATEX training courses open to all companies in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area and Satakunta region with our partner PJ-Control.

Frequently asked questions
-
According to the requirements in Finland, persons working in ATEX areas must have up-to-date training and competence to work in ATEX areas, and this competence must be able to be verified in some way.
Those who have completed Exvira’s ATEX training are issued an ATEX card as proof of their competence, which is valid for 5 years. (Government Decree 576/2003 Annex 2 Section 1.1, SFS EN IEC 60079-14 Section 5.5 Personnel competence.)
-
The training is based on
- VNA 576:2003 Annex 2, Section 1.1 requirements
- The content of the standard SFS EN IEC 60079-14
- The content of the standard SFS EN 60079-17
- The content of the standard SFS EN 60079-19

ATEX training for responsible persons is important so that responsible persons are aware of their responsibilities, know how to purchase the right equipment, know how to take into account explosive atmospheres in work instructions, markings, work clothing, etc., and know the importance of maintenance and periodic inspections. Workplace safety will improve when the company’s responsible persons know what explosion protection is all about, meaning what causes explosive atmospheres, how ventilation can be impactful, how the substance properties are relevant, and how the substances should be used and stored to increase safety.
-
For personnel, it is essential to know what causes explosion hazards, where the potentially explosive areas are, how an explosion occurs, what can act as a source of ignition, what are safe work tools, how to work safely, and what is the importance of keeping the workplace clean.
-
The person must have the qualifications required for electrical installations.
In addition, they must have sufficient qualifications in explosive areas, i.e. they must also know the content of the SFS EN IEC 60079-14 standard so that they can apply it in practical work. This qualification must also be demonstrated, e.g. with an ATEX-card. Persons planning electrical installations or supervising work must also have such qualifications. (SFS EN 60079-14).
Exvira’s Extensive ATEX training will give you sufficient understanding of the necessary standards and, as a result, the competence to perform the above-mentioned work in potentially explosive atmospheres. We will issue a card for the training, which can be used to demonstrate your competence.
-
The law requires training, but the practical need to increase safety may arise earlier.
When something dangerous starts to feel ordinary, it may be a good time to book ATEX training. In workplaces where people work with flammable substances every day, the sense of danger can become blurred. This can lead to indifference without realizing and thoughts like “nothing has happened before, so it is unlikely to happen today either”. Sometimes tasks that deviate from routine need to be carried out, and in these situations, safety must be thought of in a new way. Have you been able to take everything into account so that a dangerous situation does not arise?
Exvira’s ATEX training focuses on awakening everyone to responsibility for working safely in ATEX areas. In ATEX training, learning or reviewing basic information motivates participants to focus on safety in their own daily work.
-
The law does not specify a timeframe when a qualification is considered to expire, but the law requires up-to-date qualification.
Those who have completed Exvira’s ATEX training are issued an ATEX card as proof of ATEX competence, and the card is valid for 5 years. We recommend that staff receive ATEX training every 5 years to ensure that their knowledge, understanding and responsibility for ATEX matters remain up to date.

Depending on our workload, usually with a notice period of about a month. During busy times it can be longer, but we try to be flexible as needed.
